Prokop Train Station

    Prokop Train Station

    >> Introduction

The construction of the Belgrade’s new central train station began in 1977, together with the construction of city’s new railway node. The construction of the new node and central station went until the late 90’s, when they performed the last concrete work on this capital project. From 2001 work was halted with only the most necessary interventions to protect the building structure from deterioration. In 2010 two platforms of the new station were completed to serve the city rail service – Beovoz, and although there were several initiatives to complete the Prokop station, all of them failed.

Finally in 2013 the Government decided to restart the project, and signed a credit deal with Kuwait Development Fund, which will enable financing for the first phase of construction works. The project resumed in December 2014 and in this first phase involves the completion of remaining platforms, as well as all supporting station infrastructure and equipment. The new central station will have 10 platforms, with capacity of 40.000 passengers a day.

In the following phases remains to complete new station building with passenger infrastructure, access roads, garage, public transport terminals etc.
